It is a typical dish of the Egyptian
cuisine: tasty small deep-fried patties made of highly-spiced ground
chick-peas, rich in proteins and poor in calories, resembling meat
in nutritive value and taste. This dish is very ancient. Reportedly,
it dates back to the time of the Pharaohs and nowadays it is always
present in the dinner of Egyptians and of all people who love eating
exotic, nutritious and high-quality dises.
It is called Okra or Bamia, its
common name is hibiscus and it is also known as "okuba"
or "okura" in Asia and Japan. Today it is more and more
appreciated by consumers attracted by oriental flavours too.
